A Madea Homecoming cast and character guide is available here.
A Madea Homecoming, the latest installment in the Madea series, follows the Simmons family as they reunite to celebrate Tim’s college graduation. When this family gets together, there are bound to be some shenanigans. With a slew of family secrets, relationships, drugs, and bullets flying around, this graduation party is anything but normal. As things start to fall wrong, it’s up to Madea to ensure Tim’s celebration run as smoothly as possible.
Tyler Perry produced, wrote, and directed A Madea Homecoming, the 12th episode in the Madea franchise. Following Perry’s prior pronouncement that his previous film, A Madea Family Funeral, would be the last in the saga, A Madea Homecoming came as a surprise. Perry announced the partnership with Netflix in June 2021.
Tyler Perry As Mabel “Madea” Simmons & Uncle Joe
Mabel “Madea” Simmons is the matriarch of the Madea franchise. Madea is a direct, profane, but loving woman. Madea never holds back her thoughts, even if it means a little shooting at the dinner table. Madea maintains control of the family with the assistance of her brother, Uncle Joe, who is frequently nasty and inappropriate.
Tyler Perry, the acclaimed — and undeniably recognizable — Tyler Perry, plays both Madea and Uncle Joe. As an actor, producer, and director, Perry has made a name for himself in film and television history. In addition to the Madea series, Perry is well-known for his work on House of Payne, The Haves and Have Nots, and, most recently, Don’t Look Up.
Brandon Black As Tim Marshall
The cause for the family gathering is Tim, Madea’s great-grandson. With Tim’s imminent college graduation, the family gathers to celebrate him being valedictorian — and Tim is hoping to use the opportunity to reveal his family his major secret while accompanied by his best buddy, Davi. Brandon Black, noted for his roles in Dear White People and You’re the Worst, plays Tim.
Isha Blaaker As Davi O’Malley
Tim’s best buddy and roommate is Davi O’Malley. As they both return home to celebrate their graduations with the Simmons family, their secrets threaten to destroy the entire affair. Unlike Madea and her entourage, Davi is a calm and decent man — until Tim’s father shows around. Isha Blaaker, a Madea newcomer who has previously acted in the shows Red Riding Hoods and The Flight Attendant, plays Davi.
Gabrielle Dennis As Laura
Laura, Tim’s mother and Madea’s granddaughter, is looking forward to celebrating her son’s graduation after her divorce from Richard. Of course, things don’t go quite as planned, as Richard’s entrance sets off a chain reaction of events. Gabrielle Dennis, a newcomer to the Madea franchise, plays Laura. Dennis has previously appeared in Marvel’s Luke Cage and The Bobby Brown Story.
Brendan O’Carroll As Aunt Agnes Brown
Aunt Agnes is subjected to the hurricane that is Madea after traveling from Ireland to surprise her grandson, Davi, at his graduation. Despite a rocky start due to cultural barriers, Aunt Agnes quickly integrates with the family. Brendan O’Carroll, noted for his role as Aunt Agnes in the Irish television series Mrs. Brown’s Boys, plays Aunt Agnes.
Cassi Davis-Patton (Aunt Bam)
Davis-Patton has played the Aunt Bam character in over a dozen films and stage productions since 2006. In addition, she starred as Ella Payne in Tyler Perry’s long-running sitcom House of Payne, which she followed up with The Paynes. Davis-career, Patton’s however, does not end with Tyler Perry projects, as she has appeared in School Daze, Love on Layaway, Chicago Hope, Kenan & Kel, and Married… with Children over the years.David Mann (Leroy Brown)
Mann played the part of Leroy Brown in a slew of films, television shows, plays, and other productions that have gained widespread acclaim. Mann is likely most known for his portrayal of the role on the sitcom Meet the Browns, which aired a few years after his brief appearance on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. Mann is also the star of Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living, as well as The VeggieTales Show.Tamela Mann (Cora Simmons)
Mann has performed the Cora Simmons role over a dozen times in films such as Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Meet the Browns, and Madea’s Big Happy Family, as well as programs such as Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and plays such as I Can Do Bad All By Myself. And this is only when her work in Tyler Perry productions is considered. Mann has also appeared in The Manns, Kingdom Come, and Sparkle.Gabrielle Dennis (Laura)
Despite being one of the few members of the ensemble who hasn’t previously worked with Tyler Perry, Dennis has amassed an impressive body of work since making her acting debut in the 1990 made-for-TV film A Mom for Christmas. Dennis has been on episodes such as Teen Summit, My Name Is Earl, The Game, Justified, Rosewood, A Black Lady Sketch Show, and The Upshaws over the years.
