Chuck Jackson, an R&B singer, was one of the first performers to successfully record songs by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. He was born in America on July 22, 1937. In 1937, Jackson was conceived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He performed in a gospel ensemble in Latta, South Carolina, where he was growing up. Chuck Jackson relocated to Pittsburgh at the age of 13.
He sang lead on The Del-Vikings’ 1957 song “Willette” while a member of the group from 1957 until 1959. He was “discovered” by Luther Dixon when opening for Jackie Wilson at the Apollo Theater after leaving the band.
Since 1961, Chuck Jackson has had some modest success as a performer. Some of Chuck Jackson’s best songs include “All Around the World,” “I Don’t Want to Cry,” “Any Day Soon,” and “I Keep Forgetting.”
Both the Country and Adult Contemporary charts’ highest point was reached by Ronnie Milsap’s 1982 rendition of “Any Day Soon.” Many of Jackson’s songs went on to be popularized by other artists. I Keep Forgettin’ has been effectively covered by Michael McDonald in the past. Moreover, David Bowie sang “I Keep Forgettin'” on his album Tonight and in a version that Phil Spector made specifically for Checkmates, Ltd.
