Despite being struck while wearing protective gear, neither deputy suffered a major injury, according to the BCA.

The BCA reported that as Deputy Caturia pried through the door, he was attacked with gunshots that hit both deputies. Caturia attempted to retaliate by pulling out his departmental firearm, but it did not fire.

Officers departed the residence, and the standoff went on until Paul was eventually discovered dead.

According to the BCA, detectives found an assault weapon and two pistols near to Paul’s body.

The organization is still looking into the incident’s body-worn camera footage, which is anticipated to be made public after the inquiry is through.
