Dave Gardner, a former eighth-round draft choice, passed away, the NHL Alumni Association reported.

Following his selection by the Montreal Canadiens in 1972, Dave Gardner played 350 NHL games for the St. Louis Blues, California Golden Seals, Cleveland Barons, and Philadelphia Flyers. With 75 goals and 115 assists for a total of 190 points during his NHL professional tenure, he was a successful player.

Additionally, Gardner was a very involved player in the sports community.

The NHL Alumni Association issued the following statement in response to Dave Gardner’s passing at the age of 70: “The NHL Alumni Association is deeply saddened to hear of his passing.
Dave was selected eighth overall by the @CanadiensMTL in the 1972 NHL Draft. He scored 190 points while playing 350 games for different clubs in the league.
Dave Gardner’s father, Cal, and his brother, Paul, were both League players, so hockey runs in the Gardner family. Overseas, his son also participated in the event.
For those of us who had the good fortune to know Dave, his generosity never went unrecognized, and he continues to be an inspiration to us on a daily basis.
During this trying time, we convey Dave’s family, friends, and former teammates our sincere condolences.
