Christopher E. Eickhorst, 43, passed away May 26, 2023.

Christopher was born in New Brunswick and was a lifelong resident of South Bound Brook. He was a 2002 graduate of Kean University where he earned a degree in criminal justice.

He was first employed at Zoned Inc. as a batting instructor in Bridgewater for over 15 years. Christopher also worked at Allied Oil in Hillsborough as well as Somerset County Parks Commission.

He was a member of the Somerville Elks Lodge 1068. Christopher was a parishioner of our Lady of Mercy RC Church. Chris was an avid fisherman and was well known for his baseball excellence. He began his baseball career at Immaculata High School and then played for Kean University. He was drafted by Tampa Bay Rays as a college junior and signed with the St. Louis Cardinals as a college senior. After a stellar career at Kean University, he played professional baseball from 2002 to 2008. He played for the St. Louis Cardinals and their affiliated minor league teams, as well as the Somerset Patriots, Newark Bears and Bridgeport Bluefins. Christopher continued to coach, mentor, and inspire young players to be their very best long after his playing career was over. Christopher’s personality and laughter will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

He is predeceased by his mother Margaret Eickhorst who died in 2016 and his brother Edward Deegan in 2013.

Surviving is his father Richard J. Eickhorst, sister Jennifer Reeves and husband Michael, brothers Michael Deegan and his wife Kelly, Dennis Eickhorst and his wife Liz, Shawn, and Eric Eickhorst, and many nieces and nephews.

Prayers will be 9am Monday at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville followed by a 10am mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Visitation will be 1-5pm Sunday at the funeral home.
