Mountain Lakes School District Community Mourns Loss of Educators: Meredith Sullivan Boyan and Suzanne Nyman
The Mountain Lakes School District community is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of two beloved educators, both of whom tragically passed away on the same day last week.
Meredith Sullivan Boyan, a cherished teacher and esteemed band director at the high school, succumbed to a prolonged battle with breast cancer at the age of 38 on Thursday, as confirmed by her husband, George Boyan. To honor her memory, an online GoFundMe campaign has been initiated, aiming to establish a memorial scholarship in her name.
District Superintendent Michael Featherman expressed his shock and sorrow, stating, “We were aware of the challenges she was facing, but the gravity of her situation wasn’t fully known. Despite her struggles, she persevered and completed the school year with unwavering dedication, pouring her energy and passion into her students until the very last day of school.”
On the same terrible day of Boyan’s death, the district also lost Suzanne Nyman at the age of 59. Nyman, a 23-year district employee, has worked as an administrative assistant and paraprofessional at Wildwood School. Her influence extended to the Time to Soar before- and after-school care program at Wildwood, where she was instrumental in engaging and nurturing K-5 youngsters, according to Featherman.
