Elder Papa Fe’iloaki, a 22-year-old Tongan full-time missionary, sadly died in a hospital in the Philippines, sending shockwaves through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints society. The young missionary died of illness soon after his admission, leaving a vacuum in many people’s hearts.
Elder Fe’iloaki’s voyage took an unexpected turn when he was hospitalized owing to a fever and pneumonia. He died on Saturday, July 29, despite medical efforts. According to Sam Penrod, a Church spokesman, the exact reason of his symptoms and untimely death is still being investigated.
Elder Fe’iloaki’s dedication to his missionary work was unwavering. Serving in the Philippines Olongapo Mission since June 2022, he devoted himself to his responsibilities and the service of others. His passing is deeply felt by his family, friends, and fellow missionaries who stood by his side for the past 13 months.
Sam Penrod extended the Church’s condolences and compassion, saying, “We express our deepest sympathies and love to Elder Fe’iloaki’s family and friends and to his fellow missionaries who have served at his side for the past 13 months. We pray each will feel the Savior’s comfort and strength during this difficult time.”
