Co-Founder of KCET Shirley Baskin Familian Passes Away at 101She assisted her husband, who along with her brother founded the Baskin-Robbins ice cream brand in 1945, in establishing the L.A. station in 1964.Shirley Baskin Familian, who co-founded the Los Angeles public television station KCET and spent more than 60 years on its board, has passed away. Her age was 101.Baskin Familian passed away on Sunday, according to her family. Her brother and her late husband founded the Baskin-Robbins chain of ice cream shops in 1945.Baskin Familian, a longtime creative artist, experimented with several media before settling on a mosaic-style of artwork constructed from postage stamps that had been cancelled. She continued to work well into her nineties and had solo exhibitions at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles.She married Aaron Goldfarb after Baskin passed away from a heart attack in 1967 at the age of 54, but he passed away less than a year later. She married Isadore Familian, the CEO of Price Pfister, at the age of 60. 2002 saw his passing.Shirley’s relatives remarked that she “had a great zest and love for life and always supported peace, understanding, and generosity of spirit among everyone she knew, and she embodied those principles herself.”Her children Edie, Richard, and Skip are still alive, as are her grandkids Anabella, David, Scott, and Jon, as well as her great-granddaughter Goldie.
