Kandi Burruss entered professional music in 1992 as a singer in the successful vocal group Xscape. She sang lead on their hits “Just Kickin’ It” and “My Little Secret”, displaying a versatile contralto voice flexible enough to sing above soprano range.

In 2000, Kandi had released her debut album entitled “ Hey Kandi… ” with well known singles including ” Don’t Think I’m Not “. The album did not do as well on the chart as the single did, scoring #72 on the US Billboard 200.
Burruss also owns a sex toy company called Bedroom Kandi. Burruss and four friends started a “sex and relationship” web series on Ustream, Kandi Koated Nights. The show started on television in 2018.
Before Kandi could rejoin the group, she wanted an apology from band member Tamika Scott claiming in a 2007 interview that Burruss broke up the group by sleeping with their label head Jermaine Dupri and his father, Michael Mauldin.
After the group’s major debut performance at BET’s Teen Summit in 1992, the girls were introduced to record executive Ian Burke, who later became the group’s manager.

Alan starts paying all of Kandi’s bills and accessories. Kandi moves in with Alan at the end of an episode in season three . Alan gives Kandi a job as his assistant. Alan and Kandi get into a fight which leads to Alan’s ex-wife, Judith Harper taking Kandi out for drinks and to bitch about Alan.
Kandi reappears once in season 10 episode I Scream When I Pee. She wants Alan back and says “he is the best she had”. But Alan turns her down due to his loyalty to Lyndsey.
Kandi returns to the Harper’s house for Christmas because her boyfriend is spending Christmas with his wife and kids. Judith’s fiancee Herb Melnick starts developing a crush for Kandi. Kandi plays the piano and sings off key, even singing the wrong lyrics in Christmas songs.
