It is with regret that we announce the passing of Michael Gibbons Jr., the legendary lead guitarist best recognized for his early recordings with the New York Hardcore band Leeway. As of the time of publication, no cause of death has been given.
R.I.P. Mike Gibbons (Leeway) He is known for his lead guitar work on on the seminal and iconic Leeway crossover albums “Born To Expire” and “Desperate Measures.” This one stings, he will be surely missed. Your music will live forever.
On social media, fans and friends from other bands have posted heartfelt condolences alongside the news of his passing. Apart from contributing to the seminal first two full-length Leeway albums, Born To Expire (1989) and Desperate Measures (1991) (both released by Profile Records), Gibbons Jr. was a member of Black Ice and Drunken Ozzy’s.

Despite his retirement from music, he stayed popular and involved in the industry, appearing as a guest on Hardcore-focused podcasts including the recently released Leeway documentary and Hardcore Chronicles. RIP.
