On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 10 AM, in the chapel of the Shelton Funeral Home, there will be funeral services for Mr. Jack Harris Parnell, 91. Brent Smith will officiate.

There will thereafter be a military funeral and burial in the Nance Church of Christ Cemetery. The funeral home will be open for viewing on Monday from 5 PM to 7 PM.

On March 18, 2023, a Saturday, Mr. Parnell passed away in Trenton Healthcare.

Grady and Irma (Dickerson) Parnell welcomed Jack into the world on March 11, 1932, at their farm in the Dyer County village of New Bethlehem, which is located east of Newbern, Tennessee.

He attended New Bethlehem School before completing his high school education at Trimble. After enrolling in the University of Tennessee at Martin, he spent two years in the United States Army.

Later, he received his degree from Memphis’ Fleming College of Air Conditioning, Heating, and Electricity. Jack spent three years as a professor at the institution before moving on to Newbern Vocational School.

Later, he started working for Gibson Electric Cooperative as a Member Service Advisor, from which he retired in 1997. During that period, he assisted in planning and running a state-wide 4-H Electric Camp and presented several electrical safety demonstrations to 4-H, FFA, and science classes all over the Electric Company’s service region. In 1983, he also held the position of president of the Tennessee Chapter of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.
