A McDonough County Sheriff’s deputy was engaged in a car accident in which a guy from the St. Louis region perished.

Father of three, James Mellenthin was 35 years old. He was a Cottage Hills-based expert floor covering installer.

The collision took place on January 27 at about 9:30 p.m. on Route 67 south of Macomb.

On the spot, Mellenthin was identified as dead.

According to coroner Eric Jameson, there is no known cause of death. He is awaiting the autopsy results from a Springfield forensic pathologist.

Little information regarding the collision has been made public by the authorities.

The inquiry is being conducted by the Illinois State Police.
