The Ladies Professional Golf Association revealed on Sunday that Kathy Whitworth, the golfer with the most victories in history, had passed away at the age of 83.
Whitworth passed away unexpectedly Saturday night while spending Christmas Eve with family and friends, according to her longtime lover Bettye Odle.
Kathy “leaves this world the way she spent her life, loving, laughing and making memories,” Odle said in a statement.
Odle withheld any information regarding the manner and cause of death.
Whitworth is regarded as one of the best golfers of all time. On the LPGA Tour, she amassed 88 victories, including six major titles. She currently holds the men’s game record with 88 victories, six more than Sam Snead and Tiger Woods.
