Today, Friday, January 27, 2023, Mitchell Hamline School of Law first-year student Laura Childress’ passing was reported.
Mitchell Hamline is saddened by the untimely passing of Laura Childress, a student in her first year of law school. Laura arrived at Mitchell Hamline from New Mexico, where she had previously worked as a broadcast journalist, adult probation officer, and candidate for public office (in 2020).
She was the first person in her family to complete both her undergraduate and law school degrees. Her boys went to college after her and now both work in criminal justice. With the aid of our blended learning option, Laura was able to continue her legal education in New Mexico.
Her spouse expressed to us Laura’s desire to go law school as a realized lifelong aspiration.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the deceased’s family and friends, who have been struggling with the loss of such an intelligent and compassionate individual.
