The third set of remains to be unearthed from the same region close to the Etowah River in the previous five months has prompted the Canton Police Department to launch an investigation (Corey Kelly).

According to the police, on Thursday, officers were called to Reformation Parkway, close to the Waleska Street underpass, regarding the discovery of human remains there.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab will examine the remains, according to police.

On June 21, police discovered William Watkins’ body in the same spot along Waleska Street’s wood edge. That case was classified as a homicide by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office. In relation to the death of Watkins, Canton investigators detained Jacob Huckaby on July 8. He remains in custody while awaiting trial.

Officers discovered Pedro Hernandez-body Santiago’s in the Etowah River on July 16 just north of Waleska Street. Hernandez-death Santiago’s was determined to be the result of an unintentional drowning by the ME’s office. According to toxicology findings, Hernandez-Santiago was using methamphetamine.

As the autopsy revealed that the body had not been traumatized, Canton police announced in a statement on Friday that there had been no evidence of wrongdoing.

Police have acknowledged that they are looking into any connections between the Thursday’s discovery of the remains and the Watkins murder investigation.

There is no current threat to the public, the Canton Police Department would like to emphasize.

Anyone with information is urged to call Canton police at (770) 720-4883.
