On Monday morning, about 370 Clarion Area High School students showed up for class, many of them still in shock at the passing of their classmate, 14-year-old Paige Harrigan.
Joe Carrico, the superintendent of the Clarion Area School District, said that after hearing the news, “we called our trauma team together and prepared a game plan so we could make sure that all our kids had resources in place.” For our students, educators, and staff, we have seven counselors on hand. We created a secure area for the children in our guidance office.
On November 24, Harrigan is thought to have fled from her house in Applewood Valley. Before her body was discovered on Saturday, December, on Chestnut Ridge Drive, she had been missing for ten days.

A moment of silence was observed for Harrigan before classes began. On Monday morning, a grief counselor went to each classroom to check if there were any fresh traumas that needed to be handled.
“Typically, you don’t get much of a response from the classroom. When that reality does reach them, you’ll see the kids emerging, Carrico said.
Teachers were given advice on how to aid their students and were told to keep an eye out for any troubled children.
Around 72,000 children and teenagers pass away in the United States each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. When students are having a hard time coping with loss, teachers are frequently on the front lines of mental health care.

Carrico continued, “We had extra substitutes come in today (Monday) for our faculty in case they needed a break.

Carrico was eager to point out that members of the neighborhood had been contacting him and extending resources and sympathies.
“We’re incredibly appreciative of the help from our county partners. All of the nearby school districts have been excellent, he added.
“Our biggest wish is that the Harrigan family, as well as our students, faculty, and school community, know how much we care for them. We are incredibly appreciative of the support from our neighborhood.
