A Florida mother has been accused of killing a toddler about three months ago, according to detectives with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, Tracie Renee Puskac, 37, was apprehended at her Summerfield residence and charged with the second-degree murder of Jermiyah Puskac, a 17-month-old baby.
In response to an unconscious newborn, later named as Jermiyah, sheriff’s deputies and Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) were called to a residence on SE 42nd Avenue on April 27. In order to receive treatment, the infant was first taken to AdventHealth Belleview and then taken to UF Health Shands Hospital. Two days later, Jermiyah ultimately passed away from his wounds.
The baby’s mother, Puskac, allegedly told the detectives that her son had been hitting his head on the floor the night before and that she had relocated him to a secure place and held him down.
The sheriff’s office reports that DCF has an ongoing case with Puskac and has already taken children out of the house in the past. The Medical Examiner’s Office issued an autopsy report on July 7 and stated that the youngster passed away “from complications of a skull fracture, subdural haemorrhage, and traumatic brain and spinal cord injury due to abusive head and neck trauma.”

These injuries led to the conclusion that homicide was the cause of death. Puskac was being held without bond at the Marion County Jail.
