Nia Vardalos

Nia Vardalos was born on September 24, 1962, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Prior to her acting career on film and TV, she was a member of the improv comedy group Second City. In the ’90s, she mostly had roles in low-budget films, as well as made one-time roles on television. Her first regular gig was as a voice actress for the show Team Knight Rider.

In 2002, she received widespread attention for her role as Toula Portokalos in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. She also wrote the screenplay of the said film. For her acting work, she got a Golden Globe nomination. As a writer, she was nominated for Best Screenplay at the Academy Awards. She next co-starred in the film Connie and Carla. She recently reprised her role as Toula in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.
