The woman who was discovered dead close to Mabton in late April has been recognized by authorities.

Dental records allowed for Samantha Kalinchuk, 17, of Spokane, to be identified, according to Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice on Wednesday.

According to an autopsy, she was killed by a single gunshot to the head, and according to Chief Deputy Yakima County Coroner Marshall Slight, she had been dead for at least a day when her body was discovered.

Her corpse was discovered next to a house in the 600 block of Farm Road, roughly 2 miles east of Mabton, on April 30 about 3:30 p.m., according to Chief Criminal Deputy Carl Hendrickson in an earlier interview.

Her death is the first homicide in the Mabton region this year, one of 15 in the county.
