Sir Sydney H. Wylie Samuelson CBE was a renowned British film director and cinematographer. Samuelson was born in Paddington, London to Marjorie Emma Elizabeth Vint and George Berthold Samuelson, a cinema pioneer of the silent film era, on December 7, 1925.
Samuelson had his education at the Irene Avenue Council School in Lancing, West Sussex. He started his career in the entertainment industry as a rewind boy at the Luxor cinema in Lancing, West Sussex.
He worked in several cinemas in the Midlands as a relief operator for the ABC circuit and later got a job as a trainee film editor with Gaumont British, which was then at Lime Grove in London. Samuelson was appointed in 1991 by the government of the UK as the first British Film Commissioner

Samuelson’s death occurred on December 14, 2022, a few days after his 97th birthday. The grieving family is yet to provide the general public with schedules concerning his burial and cause of death, however, many believed Sydney Samuelson died of natural causes. He was aged 97.

Samuelson fathered three sons. His children are Peter Samuelson, Marc Samuelson, and Jonathan Samuelson, however, details about the mother of his children are not known. As at the time of his death, his net worth is estimated between $12 million and $15 million.
