Veteran Tom Hayden, 81, was ruled deceased by the Department of Veterans Affairs, yet he is still very much alive.
Hayden claimed that the error occurred not long after the passing of his wife. After nearly four months of trying to get the problem rectified without success, he finally contacted Nexstar’s KLAS.
From his Henderson, Nevada home, Hayden remarked, “They’ve got me so confused.” “I’m dead now. I am now alive. I’m now deceased.
Wendy, Hayden’s wife, died of cancer in March. Age-wise, she was 79.

For eight continuous months, I cared for her here at home because I loved her more than anyone else, Hayden said. She was stunningly attractive both physically and as a person.
Hayden spent almost 30 years in the Navy. He served as a machine gunner in Vietnam before becoming a spy who pretended to be a traitor in order to obtain information from the Russian KGB.
His residence is decorated with military medals, statues, and a letter from President Ronald Reagan. One of the highest designations for an enlisted officer, Hayden retired as a Force Master Chief Petty Officer.
Several organizations wrongly announced Tom Hayden dead. (KLAS) Hayden kept records and kept a journal. He claimed to have placed multiple calls, gone to the Social Security office in Henderson four times, and the VA office in North Las Vegas once.
It seems that the agencies treated the veteran with contempt.
KLAS contacted the Social Security Administration, Arizona State Retirement System, Defense Finance and Accounting Service, and the Veterans Administration.

The VA acknowledged its error, offered an apology, and said that the problem had been resolved. Both the Arizona State Retirement System and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service responded and said they had resolved the problem.
