Kareem Hunt attended South High School in Willoughby, Ohio, where he played for the Rebels football team. He was rated by Rivals.com as a three-star recruit and later committed to the University of Toledo to play college football.
During his freshman year in 2013, he played in 12 games with three starts and rushed for 866 yards on 137 carries with six touchdowns. In his sophomore season, he played in 10 games, but missed three due to an injury.
He was the MVP of the 2015 GoDaddy Bowl victory over Arkansas State. In his junior year, he was suspended for the first two games due to a violation of team rules.
After his collegiate career, he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round (86th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.
