Karen Malina White was born on September 13, 1964, and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Growing up, she attended and studied at the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. After she graduated from high school, she enrolled at Howard University.
During her time there, in her senior year, White won the title of “Miss Howard University” and landed her first role as an actress.
She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Howard University.
