Top Chef ‘s latest winner Gabe Erales is offering a public apology, weeks after it was revealed he was fired from his restaurant for cutting a coworker’s hours after having an extramarital affair with her.
The “Top Chef: New Orleans” finale was like the disappearing pea puree, near head-shaving and Kristen-sent-home-for-Josie controversies all rolled into one. In other words, it was jaw dropping.
‘Top Chef’s Biggest Scandals of All Time In probably the biggest scandal in ‘Top Chef’ history, Cliff Brooks was sent home for, well, hazing, fellow cheftestant Marcel Vigneron. Cliff, Elia, and Ilan had the brilliant idea of shaving Marcel’s head (after shaving their own of course), but Cliff forcefully held down Marcel to make it happen.
Every season, contestants compete in various cooking challenges for a rotating panel of notable chefs, vying for the ultimate title of Top Chef and a six-figure cash prize. Vigneron’s assault was far and away the biggest scandal to arise throughout the show’s 15 seasons.

What happened in season 7 of Top Chef?
Basically what happened was this: Cheftestant Ed Cotton made a pea puree to go along with the seafood dish he was cooking.
Officially, the state said that it would cost taxpayers nothing to have the show filmed in Texas, but Governor Rick Perry’s office signed a statement agreeing to subsidize the show to the tune of $400,000 in exchange for “the integration of [the state’s] brand in Bravo’s production of Top Chef cycle 9.”.
However, in between his Top Chef appearance being filmed and the episode airing, 25 women came forward with allegations that Besh had created a work environment in which sexual harassment and assault flourished. One woman even said that she was forced into a “long-term unwelcome sexual relationship” with Besh himself.
A group of four Boston teamsters said that they were on site that day simply picketing the Top Chef crew to “protest against the abuse of the Massachusetts film tax credit” and the fact that they were operating a non-union set. However, witnesses including Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi herself said that they became aggressive and violent.

The Washington, D.C.-area chef found a huge amount of success after his appearance on the shows, opening 11 restaurants and managing a staff of nearly 800 people.

Bravo’s Top Chef has been on the air for 16 seasons, so it’s no surprise that over the years it’s seen its fair share of scandal. More than 225 chefs have competed on the show, and more than 200 people have appeared on the show as guest judges, so from sheer volume alone you would expect a scandal or two to pop up over time. Add in the fiery personalities chosen to compete, the logistics of running a complicated competition show for so many years in so many locations, and the intense and often dramatic world of the restaurant industry, and you’re bound to get good television .
Who was the contestant on Top Chef?
A couple of weeks into filming the second season of “Top Chef,” which aired on Bravo in 2007, contestant Marcel Vigneron asked production if he could get a haircut. His hair grew quickly, Vigneron explained in a recent interview with HuffPost. (Vigneron, who was 26 while competing on the show, is now 38.)
After dinner, the chefs relocated from Santa Barbara, California, back to their home base in Los Angeles. Exhausted, Vigneron fell asleep on the couch as the rest of the contestants proceeded to get drunk. There is one additional key detail to keep in mind now.
Crooks is trying to shave Vigneron’s head, is what he’s doing, as clippers lie on the floor. Hall and Talbot watch from the sidelines and laugh, urging Aboumrad to come in and join. Crooks lifts up Vigneron and holds him vertically in a full nelson. Then Vigneron manages to escape his clutch.
There’s a shot in which Vigneron storms out of the room after being attacked, when Aboumrad is visible in the background with her full head of hair, which suggests Aboumrad and Hall shaved their heads after attacking Marcel, not before, as an attempt to mitigate the brutality of their actions.
Contestant Ilan Hall joked that Vigneron had never “lusted after a woman” and instead “jerk [ed] off thinking about Joël Robuchon,” a French chef. During one televised outburst, Hall told Vigneron to “Shut the fuck up, keep making your foams and go cry in a corner.”. Vigneron’s persona left an audience divided.
Just a normal day in the kitchen! On the night of the incident, only five chef contestants out of an initial 15 remained: Ilan Hall, Sam Talbot, Elia Aboumrad, Cliff Crooks and, of course, Vigneron.
In the middle of the night, contestant Crooks drags a sleeping Vigneron ― dressed in an undershirt and jeans ― off the couch, pins him to the ground and climbs on top of him. Crooks pushes Vigneron’s face into the carpet as he struggles to break free.
