Why do they call themselves Three 6 Mafia?

According to an interview with Juicy J, the name’s significance is that “it started with three people in the gang, [and] ended up with six; Three 6 Mafia.”

Three 6 The foundational elements of the trap sound were developed by the Memphis-based collective Mafia. While the sound of trap music originated in Atlanta, other early down-south hip-hop genres like crunk, Miami bass, bounce, and chopped & screwed also contributed to its development.

Is Three 6 Mafia still together?

The Three Six Mafia is back at it. Three 6 Mafia, a Memphis rap duo made up of Juicy J and DJ Paul, is on the road and will be performing in Denver as part of their limited engagement.
